New website coming soon...
It has certainly been an eventful business year. At the beginning we were faced with the full scale of the terrible war in the Ukraine becoming apparent. For our studios directly, this translated to rising costs and cancelled projects in the superyacht, private aircraft, and Russian / Ukrainian residential sectors. This was followed by the Autumn of three Prime Ministers and then the new ‘winter of discontent’.
Despite these external factors, it has been a very positive year for Daedalian Glass Studios and we have undertaken a wide variety of technically challenging and inspiring projects. What we love most about the projects we work on is that each commission is unique, which means that even our more experience team members are constantly coming across something new and exciting to work on.
Here is a selection of projects from the past year that we are able to share with you:
We were thrilled to be approached to manufacture decorative glass for The Vesper Bar in The Dorchester Hotel London. A series of flat and curved kiln formed wave panels were created with orange and yellow hues, fitting in beautifully with the surrounding 1930’s style interior.
We always love a project where we combine techniques to create something completely unique. After working with the client on a zodiac themed design, this bathroom lightbox used a combination of etching, gilding, painting and laminating. To complete the look, the glass was fitted into a matching framework with an integrated light sheet behind allowing the light to shine through the etched star constellation.
For this superyacht project, we manufactured a series of bespoke etched panels in a seashell design.
Our beautiful Tesseract design was manufactured as a coffee table top for this luxury hotel. This is an extremely labour intensive and technically challenging process, layering sheets of glass with mm perfect precision so that air bubbles create a geometric grid pattern.
Daedalian were first approached to develop the brief for stained glass panels around the main bar area, offering free-of-charge consultations to narrow down the brief followed with sketches and glass samples. The approved design included 52 panels in various sizes which were manufactured in 6 weeks, and packed in crates for installation by the main contractor.
Gleneagles Townhouse, Edinburgh – Daedalian Glass Studios
Daedalian manufactured and installed a number of decorative glass panels for the lobby area of the hotel. The wall panels & shop fronts consisted of a textured water effect design, hand silvered on the reverse and then laminated to 6mm toughened float glass creating a safety glass.
Using a combination of techniques, first our silver birch design was etched onto two sides of the glass, then laminated to a piece of bronze mirror with a pleated white chiffon interlayer.
A series of 8 kiln formed and toughened panels were manufactured for wardrobe doors in this beautiful private residence. We are currently working on a number of other areas for this project, so keep your eye out on our social media pages for updates!
Our laminated linen design is featured in the shower area of this private residence, with light sheets installed behind to introduce light into the space.
We always love creating bespoke samples for project, here are just a few from 2022!
This amazing project featured a decorative glass feature wall spanning almost 8 metres, in a subterranean swimming pool area of a luxury private residence.
Another stunning luxury private residence, where we laminated Sophie Mallebranche metal mesh for a partition screen, along with double doors across other areas of the property.
