The moulds used in the slumping process are custom created by Daedalian Glass Studios. These can be designed as per the clients brief. Suitable for a variety of uses such as door panels, balustrades, partition screens, table tops, splashbacks, light fittings and wall cladding.

Slumped Glass

• Slumping is the technique of reshaping glass in a kiln. This is achieved by placing glass over a mould and heating the glass until it reaches a flexible state. At this point, gravity will cause the glass to slump down into the mould and assume its new shape.
• Slumped glass is also referred to as curved glass when a non-textured, arched mould is used to create a curved panel.

Kiln Formed Glass

• Kiln forming is a glass working technique that relies on the combination of heat and gravity. It is similar to slumping except the moulds do not have the design depth associated with slumped glass. Float glass (flat glass) is placed over a mould then heated in a kiln until it turns malleable. The glass then takes on the surface texture of the mould on one side.
• Kiln formed glass is also known as kiln textured glass.
