The Client:
Daedalian Glass Studios were commisioned by Russian interior designer, Tatiana Mikhailova for the restyling of this private residence in Mayfair, London.
The Brief:
To design, make, and install a pair of etched artwork panels for lightboxes. These were to be situated above bedside tables in the master bedroom of a private apartment in Mayfair, London.
The selected panel designs were art deco style, light diffusing panels with a 2000 x 300mm area. For this brief, etching techniques were employed on low iron glass.
Daedalian originated the artwork for approval by the interior designer. This design is made using 15mm thick low iron glass, which is deep carved sandblasted with hand drilled detailing. Because of the depth of this etching (c.8mm) a panel loses its structural integrity and becomes very fragile. To make the panel safe it was laminated to a piece of 6mm toughened low-iron glass.
The backlighting was tested with the control sample to ensure the design diffused the light adequately for the master bedroom environment. Once installed the panels were finished with a 40mm chrome frame.
