The Client:
Chelmsford Cathedral is located directly in the centre of Chelmsford, northeast of London. The Gothic architecture was built between c.1200-c.1520.
The Brief:
Daedalian Glass Studios had two briefs between 2008-2013.
The first was the 'Quiet Area' where Daedalin were commisioned to create a private sectioning. The second was the 'Chapel Window' where Daedalian collaborated with artist Mark Cazalet.
Daedalian Glass Studio were commissioned to design, manufacture and install bespoke glass pieces for two sections of the Cathedral. The quiet area and the chapel window.
The Quiet Area:
This area was designed to enjoy quiet relaxation where Daedalian created double doors measuring 840 x 2850 in toughened low iron float glass. This was then laminated with black voile fabric to create a sense of privacy with slight transparency.
Chapel Window:
Daedalian collaborated with artist Mark Cazalet for the chapel window project where Mark designed the artwork for the window. Daedalian transferred it onto a digitalised stencil where it was sandblasted in low iron toughened float glass.
