The Client:
73-75 Grosvenor Street is a newly refurbished and extended commercial office building spanning across three Mayfair townhouses - numbers 73 and 74 both being individually listed as Grade II status.
This project created 36,800 square foot of premium office space across seven floors, with five outdoor terraces (including roof gardens) connecting the three townhouses.
The Brief:
Daedalian Glass Studios were commissioned to manufacture and install 108 panels with pleated chiffon laminated between glass, to be installed across both the internal and external glazing packages.
Within the internal and external glazing package, a laminated pleated chiffon design was specified across all areas but in order to be installed the actual specification of the glass manufactured varied depending on its area:
Internal Glazing
Twenty four panels of fabric laminated between layers of 5mm toughened low iron glass.
Internal fire rated double glazed units
Twenty four fire-rated double glazed units (DGU's). DGU's made up of fabric laminated between layers of 5mm toughened low iron glass, a steel spacer bar, then 60/0 fire rated clear toughened glass on the other side.
Insulated external double glazed units
Sixty external glazing DGU's. Outer face of DGU's manufactured from two layers of 5mm toughened low-iron glass, laminated with a fabric interlayer. The front face is also very softly sandblasted to create a matte finish and reduce reflections. Behind this is 16mm black spacer and then inner layer of 6mm silvered toughened float glass, with the cavity space argon filled. This DGU is then bonded to 100mm thick mineral wool insulation and the insulation is covered with aluminium foil for protection.
